Works done for God that we do only for personal comfort; that is a boost to our ego require no repentance. It is so much easier to avoid the difficult task of getting our sin exposed to us. However, works done out of love for what Christ has done for us must begin with repentance, we have no choice.

The view and magnitude of our sin can be seen only when we look to Christ for all things. When we are faced with our sin as we call on Him, our soul cries out in sorrow, asking for forgiveness and the faith to turn away from sin. And he is faithful – what joy that brings.

God has prepared good works for His children. With a repentant and clean heart, the Holy Spirit can reveal that to us.

Heavenly Father,
Forgive me for avoiding repentance and the sin in my life. Turn me away from the works that I do out of my own self-interest. Give me a repentant heart. Drown the sins in my life with tears of sorrow for how I have sinned against you.

Then, I pray that You would show me the good works you have prepared. Help me to see them with excitement. Allow me to join in your kingdom work in whatever way you have planned.
