Isaiah 53:5 (NASB)
5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.
Matthew 27:26 (NASB)
26 Then he released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified.
1 Peter 2:24 (NASB)
24 and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.
The prophesy of Isaiah, the gospel of Matthew, and the letter of Peter tell us of the healing that we receive because of the wounds that Jesus endured.
Early in life, I did not really understand the magnitude of the punishment that our Lord and Savior received, even before He was hung on the cross. I don’t think it really hit me until I saw the movie in 2004, “The Passion of the Christ”. As I have gotten older, it is easier for me to become emotional. I was encouraged early in life to not show emotions because that was not manly. I now know that is not true. Seeing what was done stirs me to weep in sorrow for what He had to undergo and to weep for joy for His sacrifice for the Kingdom.
As Easter approaches this year, I praise God that I am not only forgiven by the death and resurrection, but I am also healed by the wounds of Jesus. I know it is a sacrifice for one that is not worthy, by One who is completely worthy.
Always praying for the glory of God,
