Isaiah 1:4,7,9
4 Ah, sinful nation,
a people laden with iniquity,
offspring of evildoers,
children who deal corruptly!
They have forsaken the LORD,
they have despised the Holy One of Israel,
they are utterly estranged.
7 Your country lies desolate;
your cities are burned with fire;
in your very presence
foreigners devour your land;
it is desolate, as overthrown by foreigners.
9 If the LORD of hosts
had not left us a few survivors,
we should have been like Sodom,
and become like Gomorrah.
It is easy to think that the things going on in the world today is somehow much worse than it has ever been. We reminisce of sweeter times of old; our memory can deceive us. But Solomon reminds us in Ecclesiastes that there isn’t anything new under the sun.
From this we can find comfort. God is in control and He protects his chosen ones. If we are His children, we will be with Him in Glory, even if the world today is not how it is supposed to be. But it will.
Father, praises to you. You allow that which you hate for your ultimate glory. Forgive us when we fall into despair and don’t trust your perfect plan. Holy Spirit, calm our thoughts and give us an ability to remember what is true. Praying these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.
